Choosing the best tyres for a particular type of vehicle might have a substantial effect on safety and comfort. One model can perform better on a small city car, while another may give much better results on a sports vehicle.  Here we will help you, to find out on which tyre models in size 195/65 R15V  perform best on the cars for which they are created. This article contains a range of useful advice when buying tyres, and the best products in the size are listed on the basis of the ADAC tests of summer tyres for 2014.

How to choose summer tyres

1. Tyre size. You can find information about this parameter on a sticker placed close to the car door , on the side of your tyres, or on the fuel tank flap, or in the vehicle manual.

2. How many tyres to replace – two or four? The best driving parameters, and the highest level of safety, are obtained by using every tyres of the same type.. The car behaves less predictably and brakes less well, while manoeuvres at high speed cannot be performed as confidently as in the case where four identical tyres are fitted. Two pairs of different tyres mean different braking distances, unequal resistance to aquaplaning, and uneven grip.

3. Vehicle power , class of tyres , driving style and distances travelled. Some vehicles have more power than others, and drivers differ in driving style (some drive in a relaxed or moderate fashion, while others have a more dynamic and confident style) what has a direct influence on the classes of tyres which are recommended for particular drivers and their cars. The best tyres are those in the premium class. These are products for those who travel a great deal  and for powerful vehicles or drive dynamically . Mid-range tyres are a compromise between premium and economy tyres. Tyres in the economy class are recommended for smaller cars and for those who drive mainly in town and with a more relaxed style.

4. Tread type. Popular summer tyres include both asymmetric and directional models -whereas winter tyres are mostly of the directional type.  A directional tread has a V-shaped or herringbone pattern. The greatest strengths of tyres of this type are short braking distance , efficient expulsion of water, and good reaction to acceleration.

Asymmetric tyres have a tread divided into an outer and inner part where the inner part is responsible for rapidly expelling water when driving in the wet  and the outer part provide safe and stable driving on straight roads and turns when the surface is dry. Tyres with an asymmetric tread provide comfort and economy.

One of the most important parameters of summer  tyres is their grip in the wet.

The ADAC testing methodology

A tyre’s final score in the ADAC test is based on weighted scores in special categories. ADAC assigns the greatest importance to adhesion on a wet surface (which has a weighting of 40%). The next determinants considered are adhesion on a dry surface (20%) and tread wear (20%). Also taken into account are level of noise (10%) and fuel consumption (10%). Tyres are given a final rating of “very good”, “good”, “satisfactory”, “adequate” or “defective”. None of the tested models obtained the “very good” rating. Rated as “good” were seven of the above-mentioned tyres (the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance, Dunlop Sport BluResponse, Hankook Kinergy Eco K425, Fulda EcoControl HP, Nokian Line, Pirelli Cinturato P1 Verde and Vredestein Sportrac 5). Bringing up the rear were the Apollo Alnac 4G (“adequate”) and the Federal Formoza FD2 (“defective”). The other tyre models were rated as satisfactory.
