Continental WinterContact TS 860
The Continental WinterContact TS 860 is the latest winter tyre from the German group's legendary range. For many years, tyres bearing the "TS" label have been regarded as some of the best on the market. The previous model (TS 850) was one of the most highly regarded tyres in Continental's history. It took part in over 47 tests, generally ranking highly. The TS 850 model is also very popular among drivers and was recommended by over 90% of our customers. Continental claims that the WinterContact TS860 is an even better tyre.
The braking distances of the Continental WinterContact TS 860 are 5% shorter than its predecessor on wet winter surfaces and 4% shorter on ice. Continental engineers have also succeeded in improving the tyre's overall performance on slippery surfaces. The figures for rolling resistance and resilience to wear are comparable to its predecessor, the TS850.
The excellent performance of the Continental WinterContact TS 860 tyre can be attributed to the modified rubber compound used and the tyre's altered tread pattern. The "Cool Chili" compound contains a high percentage of silica, which reduces braking distances on wet surfaces. The polymer components in the compound were chosen with a view to maximising traction on winter roads and at low temperatures. The Continental WinterContact TS 860 provides full control over the vehicle in the most challenging of conditions.
The tyre also features an innovative water dispersal system. A liquid layer is formed when driving and braking on slippery surfaces, which increases the area of contact with the road and reduces wheel slip. This significantly improves safety on black ice.
The model features a directional tread without the circumferential grooves that are typical of modern winter tyres. Instead, it features the distinctive SnowCurve technology with 3D grooves over the entire tread surface. An additional groove in the tread block walls allows for improved hold on snow, providing significantly better grip and control over the vehicle on slippery roads.
Continental tyres are designed for a wide variety of road conditions: dry, wet, snowy and icy. These are the conditions most frequently encountered in Europe between October and March. The Continental WinterContact TS 860 is therefore the ideal choice for British and Irish roads.
