Nokian WR D4

The presented tyre is marked with 3PMSF symbol (Three Peak Mountain Snow Flake). It means that the tyre meets the EU requirements for winter tyres. The symbol is awarded after thorough tests of a tyre model in terms of snow grip.

Tyre details:

Looking for a reliable winter tyre? The Nokian WR D4 is the successor to the WR D3, a popular tyre amongst Central European and Scandinavian drivers. The new model is a solution designed for city cars, estates and small cars.

Nokian prioritises safety and excellent performance in typical winter conditions, so it is not surprising that it has been awarded the "A" rating for braking on wet surfaces (within the European labelling system). The WR D4 is the first tyre in its category with an "A" rating for wet braking.

The model features a directional tread pattern, which has been improved and optimised to suit winter conditions in Central Europe. The improved block design, reinforced with special connections and incisions, improves effective dispersal of water, slush and snow.

The wide central rib features shorter blades to ensure steering precision and stability on the road. All of the grooves and tread blocks have been individually designed. This guarantees excellent grip and stability when going round corners and during sudden manoeuvres.

The tyre features the Nokian Twin Trac Silica compound, containing natural rubber, silica and rapeseed oil. This compound improves driveability on snowy and wet surfaces, helps increase grip and is very durable, which in turn has a positive impact on the service life of the WR D4. The use of this compound reduces rolling resistance, which in turn leads to a reduction in fuel consumption and thus a more economic and environmentally friendly driving experience.

The engineers behind the tyre have also improved acoustic comfort using Silent Sidewall technology, a special strip made from an innovative rubber compound and inserted between the side wall and the tread (shown above). This actively filters noise and vibrations coming from the tyre whilst driving, resulting in a quiet and comfortable driving experience.

Nokian is an independent Finnish manufacturer which is particularly renowned for its winter tyres adapted to the difficult conditions of Central Europe and Scandinavia. Nokian introduces environmentally friendly solutions, making its products good for the environment not only at the production stage but also during their use and disposal.

I've mounted the Nokian WR D4 tyres over 2 months ago. I drove a little more than 750 miles on them with a 150 bhp car weighing 1.5 tons. Usually in the city. First thing that got my attention was the smell of rubber compound. That's very unusual. From what I've read Nokian added canola oil to the mixture, maybe this caused such an unusual effect. These tires really smell like no other. I don't pay much attention to the appearance of the tread, for me it's completely irrelevant. For me, the tyre needs to be effective when it comes to draining water, mud and snow as well as breaking distance. On second place i'd put the noise level and the third thing is rolling resistance. But I must admit that this tread is unique in appearance and looks quite nice. As for traction; On the dry the tyre firmly grips the road and is very quiet, not squealing on curves. At high speeds on the highway tyre noise did not bother me at all, it is minimal and for that Nokian is to be commended. I had the opportunity to ride in the city during really heavy rains which turned roads into rivers and so I am delighted how well this tire can cope with the water. At 45mph in such conditions, I only heard sough of traversed water, and the car felt like it was sticked with a glue. Rut with water? For those tires it does not matter. Braking? At the 45 mph, in these rainy conditions, the car felt like if it was driving on the dry road. As for the winter conditions of snow it was maybe a couple of days and the tires were good. On the slush also all great. But it is not enough to somehow verify their effectiveness and to issue reliable opinions. As for the rolling resistance is not noted a higher combustion When you change summer tires (Pirelli) with these winter tires, but i refrain from evaluation because of a small run on these Nokian WR D4. I won't judge thei durability neither because of distance. In my opinion premium tires all have similar parameters. If you have a slow 300-400 pounds and wish to buy winter tires then i honestly recommend them. If not, try Barums, but in my opinion it is worth investing in Nokians, in the end is the only part of the car which directly connects it to the surface ... Final statement - since i usually have little time to get to work in the morning i'm very glad Nokian WR D4 can take me there swiftly and safely.

I only had one opportunity to use in the snow. Worked great from a standing hill start on compacted snow. Great tyre for the price and works as well as the continental winter tyres that I had on my last car. I will buy these again if still cheaper than the continental.

The tire keeps cool and with more than 300 hp, but ..No few but .Pierwsze above + 10 ° C when braking from high speeds bends terribly - you feel enough you'll rim on the ground and just feel on the steering wheel also above + 8-9stC during braking makes strange sounds (something specifically buzzes and whistles curiously from the beginning I I thought keeps coming brakes) Second Downer, but disappears in his eyes, just compared to the previous modellu Here odosze wrwazenei gum which is the user's list 3x sweeter than WRD3. A few days of driving the dodatnch temperature, some more quickly braked suddenly have 16000 km instead of 8 mm tread almost 4 mm. All super-aggressive driving over the road and is ranked as the biggest drawbacks of the tire. On the bright side? Adhesives for dry type better than summer tires Dunlop Sport Max wet at all a revelation because I can practically roll as if there was no water on the road together, the last word: If enough driving on and depends on the use of high performance and high bralbym stuktecznosci in the dark, but if you are driving on a lot of it adorned with the need to buy 2 sets for one winter, and certainly not count on it with you well enough and for the second year .Wybor is your first buyer.

I bought this to replace winter tires 185/60 R15 Pirelli Winter Snowcontrol mounted on my stick, and summer use of Michelin Energy Saver + the same size. I decided to buy Nokian version "XL" with an index 88 instead of 84 charge for more support and I do not regret the choice at all. The new Nokian rubber proved to be a very good buy, in terms of grip on dry, wet and snow, both compared to the former Pirelli, Michelin is compared to the summer, against which these Nokian also offer fuel consumption and noise levels lower slightly lower, despite the geometry of winter, and the load index. My car, combined with the measure, offer comfort with soft suspension, but it gives a large space for sports maneuvers, such as the tread a little tight; However, I found more grip than summer Michelin, which surprised me. Throughout the winter, in which I have traveled about 15,000 kilometers, the tread is worn to a millimeter. In the end, I could not claim to be happier with this purchase. Last but not least, the Oponeo service was quick and easy.
