The Renault Laguna is a D-segment passenger car produced by the French manufacturer Renault since 1994. Initially launched as a 5-door liftback, the range was expanded a year later with the addition of the estate version, known as the Laguna Grandtour. This model replaced the aging Renault Nevada, the estate variant of the Renault 21.
The engine lineup included petrol units such as the 1.6 16V, 1.8 8V and 16V, 2.0 8V and 16V, and the powerful V6 3.0 12V and 24V. Diesel options included 1.9 and 2.2-litre engines. One of the Laguna’s key strengths was its generous standard equipment, which featured central locking with remote control, power steering, electric front windows, and a driver’s airbag. The model gained significant popularity in Western Europe, leading to the release of several special editions, including the Milenium (from 2000) and the Initiale Paris. These versions offered premium features such as leather upholstery, navigation, body-coloured trim and door handles, and wood accents on the dashboard.
In 2001, Renault launched the second-generation Laguna, available in both hatchback and estate body styles. This version was built on the Nissan Primera platform and introduced several innovations, including a keyless entry and start system using a special card. The first facelift came in 2005, bringing a redesigned front end, updated headlights, and refreshed interior elements. The engine range was also expanded to include a 2.0 dCi diesel engine producing 150 hp.
The third-generation Renault Laguna debuted in 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. A notable addition to the lineup was the coupé version, which featured enhanced equipment levels. With its stylish design, solid build quality, and excellent safety features, the third-generation Laguna earned a five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests.
