BlackChili is one of the most recognisable rubber compounds in the entire automotive industry, and its new version has been tailored to a dynamic riding style and tested on top-of-the-range sports motorbikes. It stands out not only for its excellent rigidity, which translates into grip in a variety of road and weather conditions, but also for its much faster warm-up time. This effect is further enhanced by special micro-slits on the outer tread profile, which promote the tyre’s natural flex and help retain heat during manoeuvres.
TractionSkin tread for safety at high speeds
The key to creating a tyre suitable for both the road and the track is to develop a sufficiently versatile tread pattern that doesn’t restrict you in any way. That is why the fifth generation of ContiSportAttack 5 tyres features TractionSkin technology, a special micro-textured surface that ensures the tyres break in exceptionally quickly and effectively. Several additional features have also been incorporated into the tread:
- Special long, flat-angle grooves allow for faster and more stable acceleration when exiting a bend from a leaning position. This results in smoother, yet more controlled acceleration.
- The short, high-volume channels are designed to drain water away from the front of the tyre, ensuring greater safety when driving on wet roads.
- The increased contact patch in the tyre’s side zones delivers a dramatic improvement in grip during extreme lean angles when cornering.
MultiZoneBelt internal design – for greater safety
The innovations in the Continental ContiSportAttack 5 tyre also apply to its interior. This is because a design based on MultiZoneBelt technology has been used herein. This is a completely new frame, both in terms of its structure and the materials used. It has been divided into two zones, each serving a different purpose:
- In the central section of the tyre, the carcass has a dense weave of numerous wires, which form a hard surface. It ensures greater tyre stability whilst driving.
- The sidewalls have a less dense ply structure, allowing the tyre to retain greater flexibility in these areas, which ensures a more stable ride when cornering.
The material used to manufacture the carcass has made it possible to achieve varying levels of stiffness in precisely defined areas, thereby not only improving the motorcycle’s handling but also offering better shock absorption and, consequently, greater comfort.
BlackChili Compound
A patented rubber compound developed by Continental. The special formula combines high-quality synthetic and natural rubbers, whilst the addition of carbon black particles specially treated using nanotechnology ensures optimum flexibility. This results in tyres that grip the road better, thereby improving traction without compromising durability.
MultiZoneBelt
Continental’s technology, which involves dividing the tyre carcass into two zones. The central part of the tyre features a denser weave of reinforced wires, which provide greater stability when driving at high speeds, whilst the side sections, with a lower density, ensure optimum flexibility for more precise cornering.
TractionSkin
