Continental CT22 Contact was designed with the use of modern computer software. With this, the designers obtained optimum arrangement of individual tread elements. The rubber compound used to produce the tread was reinforced with a silicate component. This ensures wear resistance and adequate flexibility over a wide temperature range. In combination with proper balancing, the designers were able to prolong the tyre’s mileage and reduced rolling resistance. This solution also contributes to lower fuel consumption. The large tread surface means that the tyre wears evenly and holds its properties for a long period of time. The designers also reinforced the internal structure of the Continental CT22 Contact. They added an additional nylon belt, to prevent deformation of the tread even during fast and dynamic driving. The rigid side wall is protected against mechanical damage and, moreover, the thick and solid shoulders stabilise the drive track and reduce vibration and noise. Three wide zigzag-shaped circumferential grooves are responsible for safe driving on wet roads. This solution ensures quick removal of water from the contact surface. The shape of the channels further reduces water turbulence. This design significantly reduces the risk of hydrodynamic slip.
