The Mazda CX-7 is a compact SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Mazda. First introduced at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show, it marked Mazda's return to the SUV segment following the discontinuation of the Mazda Navajo in 1994. Although it shares a similar design language with the larger CX-9, the CX-7 does not share any components with it.
The CX-7 features a fully independent suspension system, utilizing the front suspension from the Mazda MPV and the rear suspension from the Mazda 5. Its exterior design draws inspiration from the sporty RX-8, with a steeply raked windshield that flows smoothly into the roofline, giving it a dynamic, coupe-like silhouette rather than the traditional family SUV appearance.
Inside, the RX-8’s influence continues with a driver-focused cockpit. The center console is positioned prominently on the dashboard, offering intuitive ergonomics despite the abundance of buttons. The instrument cluster features elliptical dials, while the upper dashboard houses a display for the audio system and climate control panel.
Under the hood, the Mazda CX-7 offers two engine options. For those prioritizing fuel efficiency, there's a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine delivering 173 hp, equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger and advanced Common Rail fuel injection. Performance enthusiasts can opt for the 2.3-liter MZR turbocharged petrol engine, borrowed from the Mazda 6 MPS, which produces an impressive 260 hp.
The standard tyre size for the Mazda CX-7 is 235/60 R18.
Optionally, it can be fitted with 255/50 R19 tyres for enhanced performance and styling.
