And even the very expensive winter tyres in their third year of use - are they as effective as the first? - Probably not. This is what I do: I buy an all-season Navigator, and in the first year of use, when the rubber is soft and the tread is high, I use it as a winter tyre, and possibly also in the second year. Then I use it as a summer tyre and add the remaining tread in summer only. And for the winter I buy fresh Navigators. What do more knowledgeable people have to say about this?
