The Alfa Romeo Brera is a stylish sports coupé produced by the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo between 2005 and 2010. Designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Brera showcases the brand’s bold new design language and continues to turn heads with its striking appearance. Developed as a successor to the aging GTV, the Brera is built on the Alfa 159 platform, sharing approximately 55% of its components with the sedan. However, it features a shortened wheelbase and a stiffer suspension setup, enhancing its sporty character.
The Brera’s avant-garde design is one of its standout features. The aggressive, wedge-shaped front end is accentuated by sharp creases that lead to the iconic Alfa Romeo grille. While the front bears some resemblance to the Alfa 159, the rear design is unique, featuring wide tail lights and a steeply raked rear window that add to its dynamic profile. The overall design conveys a sense of compactness and cohesion, making the Brera a true visual statement on the road.
One of the car’s drawbacks is its relatively high curb weight of around 1,800 kg, which is considerable for a coupé. However, the potent 3.2-litre V6 engine, delivering 260 hp, provides ample performance to counterbalance the weight. Inside, the Brera offers a premium experience with a well-appointed cabin crafted from high-quality materials, ensuring both comfort and style.
That said, the Brera’s performance doesn’t quite match its sporty looks. The 3.2 V6 version is known for its high fuel consumption, with real-world figures ranging from 17 to 25 litres per 100 km, according to independent tests. Additionally, while the car offers a spirited drive, it falls short of delivering the sharp handling and excitement found in some of its rivals, with noticeable understeer in dynamic driving conditions.
The standard tyre sizes for the Alfa Romeo Brera are 215/55 R16 and 225/50 R17. For those seeking enhanced performance and aesthetics, optional 235/45 R18 tyres can also be fitted.
