Mercedes Sprinter

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a versatile van that has been in continuous production since 1995. It is assembled at two facilities in Germany: Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde. The Sprinter succeeded the Mercedes-Benz T1 and quickly gained popularity, especially in the commercial vehicle segment, thanks to its wide range of configurations. The first-generation Sprinter was offered with three wheelbase options, two roof heights, and two cab lengths, catering to a variety of business needs.

Shortly after its debut, a camper version was introduced, featuring a kitchen, four comfortable sleeping berths, and a toilet, making it a popular choice for recreational use. Engine options included a 2.3-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 78 hp, and a 2.9-liter turbodiesel available with 102 hp or 122 hp. A 2.3-liter petrol engine delivering 143 hp was also offered. The Sprinter's innovation and practicality earned it the prestigious "Van of the Year" award in 1995.

In 2000, the Sprinter received a facelift that included a new Mercedes-Benz star emblem, clear-lens headlights, turbo air intake vents, a gear lever mounted on the center console, and a redesigned dashboard. A new range of CDI diesel engines was also introduced. That same year, the Sprinter entered the U.S. market under the Freightliner brand. Further facelifts in 2002 and 2003 brought additional design updates and the introduction of the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) system. In the U.S., the model was also sold as the Dodge Sprinter.

The second generation of the Sprinter was launched in 2006, developed in collaboration with Volkswagen, which marketed its version as the Volkswagen Crafter. This generation featured a larger body and came standard with advanced safety features, including ESP with ABS, ASR, MSR, BAS, and EBD, as well as a driver’s airbag. A notable innovation was the adaptive ESP system, which adjusts to changes in the vehicle’s center of gravity—particularly useful for cargo transport.

Factory tire sizes for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vary by model and configuration, with standard options including 205/75 R16 and 195/70 R15. Optional tire sizes include 225/70 R15, 225/75 R16, 235/65 R16, and 235/60 R17, allowing for customization based on specific driving needs and load requirements.
