The Opel Antara is a versatile crossover SUV and the successor to the Opel Frontera. Manufactured by Opel, a subsidiary of the American automotive giant General Motors (GM), the Antara combines practicality with modern design. It was first unveiled as a concept car—the Antara GTC—at the 2005 IAA Motor Show in Frankfurt. The production model made its official debut less than a year later at the Paris Motor Show.
Depending on the market, the Antara is also sold under different names, including Opel Antara, Holden Captiva MaXX, Daewoo Winstorm MAXX, Saturn VUE, and GMC Terrain. Its closest sibling is the Chevrolet Captiva, primarily available in the American market. While the concept was based on the Chevrolet T2X platform, the production version shares more similarities with the Chevrolet S3X.
The Opel Antara is offered in two trim levels: Enjoy and Cosmo. Standard and optional features include a panoramic electric sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlight control, dual-zone electronic climate control (ECC), power windows front and rear, electro-hydraulic power steering, Bluetooth connectivity with hands-free functionality, and the DVD 100 satellite navigation system.
The engine lineup includes a 2.4-litre R4 Ecotec petrol engine producing 140 hp and a 3.2-litre V6 Ecotec petrol engine delivering 227 hp. Diesel options include a 2.0-litre CDTI engine available in two power outputs: 127 hp and 150 hp. Transmission options consist of a five-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The Antara features an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system and a Descent Control System (DCS) for improved handling on steep inclines, making it capable both on highways and off-road terrain.
The standard tyre size for the Opel Antara is 235/60 R17. Optional tyre sizes include 215/70 R16, 235/55 R18, and 235/65 R17, allowing for customization based on driving preferences and conditions.
