Skoda Octavia

The Škoda Octavia is the flagship model of the Czech brand. Between 1996 and August 2014, Škoda delivered 4.4 million Octavias to customers worldwide, accounting for approximately 40% of the brand's total sales during that period.

Let’s take a closer look at the key features of this iconic model. The first generation of the Škoda Octavia debuted in 1996 and is classified as a compact car. Interestingly, this wasn’t the first Octavia in the brand’s history—the original model rolled out of the Škoda Mladá Boleslav factory in 1959 as the successor to the Škoda 440. Several variants were produced, including an estate version, which remained in production until 1971. The Octavia name was revived in October 1996 with a modern version developed by Volkswagen engineers, known as the Škoda Octavia I. It was available as a five-door liftback and estate. Thanks to its compatibility with tyres from all price segments, the car could be easily tailored to individual needs.

The first-generation Octavia was built on the VW Golf IV platform. It was offered with a wide range of petrol engines: 1.4 (60 HP) AMD, 1.4 16V (75 HP) AXP, BCA, 1.6 (75 HP) AEE, 1.6 8V (100 HP) AEH, AKL, 1.6 8V (102 HP) AVU, BFQ, 1.8 20V (125 HP) AGN, 1.8 20V T (150 HP) AGU, ARX, ARZ, AUM, 1.8 20V T (180 HP) AUQ, 2.0 (115 HP) AEG, APK, AQY, AZH, AZJ, 2.0 (120 HP) ATF. Diesel options included: 1.9 SDI (68 HP) AGP, AQM, 1.9 TDI (90 HP) AGR, ALH, 1.9 TDI PD (101 HP) ATD, AXR, 1.9 TDI (110 HP) AHF, ASV, and 1.9 TDI PD (130 HP) ASZ.

The Škoda Octavia earned four stars in Euro NCAP safety tests. Although official production of the first generation ended in 2004, due to continued demand, it remained available as the Škoda Octavia Tour until 2010.

In 2004, the second generation of the Škoda Octavia was introduced, based on the VW Golf V platform. In India, it was marketed as the Škoda Laura. Like its predecessor, the Octavia II was available in both liftback and estate versions. It featured a broad range of engines, including the high-performance RS variant, which came equipped with a 2.0-litre engine from the VW Golf V GTI, delivering 200 HP. This version required high-quality tyres to match its performance. In 2006, the Octavia II lineup was expanded with the Scout edition—an off-road estate version featuring all-wheel drive and increased ground clearance, making it suitable for light off-road use.

At the 2008 Paris Motor Show, Škoda unveiled a facelifted version of the Octavia, featuring redesigned headlights, body-coloured mouldings, larger side mirrors, and a more prominent grille frame.

The third generation of the Škoda Octavia was launched in 2013. This version was larger, more refined, and featured a more elegant design with sharper lines and modern styling. The interior was ergonomically designed and offered generous space and a large boot, making it one of the most practical models in its class. The Octavia III also stood out for its high safety standards.

Depending on the version, the Škoda Octavia comes factory-fitted with tyres in the following sizes: 175/80 R14, 195/65 R15, 205/55 R16, 205/50 R17, 225/50 R17, and 225/40 R18. Optional tyre sizes include: 205/60 R15 and 225/45 R17.
