Volvo S90

The Volvo S90 is a premium E-segment sedan produced by the Swedish automaker Volvo as the successor to the Volvo 960. While the two models shared many similarities, the S90 introduced a new naming convention that aligned with Volvo's updated model designation system. In 1997, Volvo adopted the "S" prefix for sedans, "V" for estate models, and later "C" for coupés. The S90 debuted alongside its estate counterpart, the V90, marking a new chapter in Volvo's lineup. The refreshed S90 featured several updates, including a wider selection of exterior colors and upgraded interior trim materials. Despite the modern touches, it retained the generous dimensions of its predecessor, offering exceptional interior space that comfortably accommodated five passengers. The large trunk was also a standout feature, rivaling the cargo capacity of many estate cars. Safety remained a top priority for Volvo. The S90's substantial body structure, combined with standard airbags, advanced seat belts, and extensive crumple zones, provided excellent protection in both frontal and side-impact collisions. These safety credentials were validated through numerous crash tests. To enhance driving dynamics, Volvo improved the suspension system—addressing one of the key weaknesses of the 960. This upgraded suspension, initially introduced at the end of the 960's production run, became standard in both the S90 and V90. Under the hood, the S90 was powered by reliable and robust DOHC inline-six engines. Buyers could choose between a 2.5 R6 24V engine producing 170 HP or a 2.9 R6 24V available in 184 HP and 204 HP variants. These engines were known for their durability and straightforward design, contributing to the model's reputation for reliability.

The standard tyre size for the Volvo S90 is 195/65 R15.
Optionally, it can be equipped with 205/55 R15 tyres.
