The size of the tyre comes in a form of a string of numbers and a letter which informs about the type of the tyre's construction ('R" stands for radial). The first number informs about the tread width of the tyre and it is provided in millimetres. In the case of the 175/70 R14 tyre it equals 175 mm. The second number equals the tyre profile's height and its percentage ratio to the tyre's tread width. In this case it is 70% out of the 175 mm of tread width.
