The Opel Meriva is a compact MPV (K-segment) that has been in production since 2002. It made its debut at the Paris Motor Show. The first generation, known as the Meriva A, was built on the Opel Corsa C platform and was the smallest MPV in the brand’s lineup. Like the larger Zafira, the Meriva featured the innovative FlexSpace system, allowing for easy reconfiguration of the luggage area. Its versatile interior included foldable and sliding rear seats, along with additional hooks in the boot, enabling the cabin to adapt to various needs.
The engine lineup for the first generation included petrol options: 1.4 (90 hp), 1.6 (100 hp), 1.8 (125 hp), and a sporty 1.6 Turbo OPC (180 hp). Diesel variants included the 1.3 CDTI (75 hp), 1.7 DTI (75 hp), and 1.7 CDTI (100 hp and 125 hp). In 2005, the Meriva received a facelift featuring a redesigned front grille, updated headlights, and tinted rear windows. The refreshed model was officially unveiled at the Bologna Motor Show.
The second generation, the Meriva B, premiered at the Geneva Motor Show on 8 March 2010. It is produced at Opel’s Zaragoza plant in Spain. Engine options include petrol units: 1.4 Twinport Ecotec (100 hp), 1.4 Turbo Ecotec (120 hp), and 1.4 Turbo Ecotec (140 hp), as well as diesel engines: 1.3 CDTI Ecotec (75 hp) and 1.7 CDTI Ecotec (100 hp). All engines comply with the Euro 5 emissions standard.
A standout feature of the second-generation Meriva is the FlexDoor system, which allows the rear doors to open rearward at an 84° angle, improving accessibility. The vehicle’s design echoes the styling of newer Opel models such as the Insignia and the fourth-generation Astra.
The Meriva is also the first car in the world to receive certification from Aktion Gesunder Rücken (AGR), an organization promoting spinal health. The car was recognized for its ergonomic design, including the FlexFIX bike carrier, FlexDoor, and FlexSpace systems, as well as supportive seating that minimizes strain on the spine.
The standard tyre sizes for the Opel Meriva are 185/60 R15 and 205/45 R17. Optionally, it can be fitted with 205/50 R16 tyres.
